May 24, 2011

I am debating whether to do daily posts on mundane things or just share thoughts about progress etc. Today I am going to try the daily post thing.

Aside from having to be at work at 6:45 and not taking the time to pack a lunch, things have been going well today. I also did not take the time to make breakfast this morning. This means both breakfast and lunch meant a trip to the cafeteria. This can be daunting to someone who reads constantly about the importance to be as "clean" and "organic" as possible. Let me tell you I highly doubt my eggs from Parkland this morning were farm fresh and I know my bacon may not have even ever been a pig. But hey, I am still trying my best with what I have to work with. I will learn all the tricks of the trade on finding and eating the best I can even in situations where I was too lazy to pack a lunch.

For breakfast I picked up two boiled eggs and 2 pieces of bacon. I also got a small coffee (to which I did add 2 tbsp of half ad half - but that is about 1/3 of what I used to add).

For lunch I opted for iFritelli (a local Italian place that has a kiosk in our lunch area). They have a great dish of steak tips with a Gorgonzola sauce. I got it without the usual orzo pasta it comes with. Then I added a side salad and a lemonade (crystal light quick pack). I think that may be one of the hardest things for me to quit at this moment. I use Crystal Light packs at lunch each day. It used to be soda every day. I am sure I will eventually find even these too sweet and back off to straight water or herbal tea.
For dinner I have planned a chicken “burger” with green bean “fries” and a spinach salad. I sauté the green beans up with goat milk butter and fresh rosemary.

I might have a snack somewhere in there of carrot chips and some laughing cow cheese. I need to find or make Kale chips that I hear everyone raving about. I also need to find some more snack ideas. I have a period around 2 pm at work where I get “hungry”. It used to be my old “snack time” which meant a candy bar or chips. I am sure those psychological cravings will wane as well with time but right now it would be nice to have some ideas. So drop me a comment below if you have good snaktastic ideas.

Okay so my diet isn’t Paleo in the strictest sense yet – but I am getting there.

Also on tap for tonight is a nice long walk with my neighbor around the local park. As far as exercise goes Crossfit looks great and something I may try later on as I lose more weight and get the asthma under control. For now I work out 3 days a week for 30 minutes at Curves (it’s a circuit system that I have had success with in the past). I think that considering I don’t have a strong physical background at the moment that I am going to start with what I know I can do and then as I get stronger and healthier I will really start to push myself with kettle bells and maybe even join the crossfit gym that is near a painting studio I frequent.
